Lead Removal Is a Credentialed Trade
Lead paint removal from a bridge or a piece of structural steel calls for the right accreditation before anyone bids the work. AMPP QP2 is the company-level credential that qualifies a contractor to remove and manage hazardous coating material, including lead, in the field, and it's what most CTDOT and municipal specifications require before a crew touches a lead-coated structure. Cristiano & Son holds QP2 accreditation, with QP1 field-application accreditation as its formal prerequisite. Field crews carry AMPP's C3 lead-removal training, plus C5 refresher training on top.
What QP2 Covers
AMPP's QP2 program evaluates whether a contractor has the equipment, trained personnel, and quality-control systems to safely remove hazardous coatings, lead and chromium among them, from industrial and infrastructure surfaces. On our jobs that means full environmental containment, abrasive blasting to the specified surface standard, blast-media recovery, EPA-compliant disposal, and re-coat application, handled in a single mobilization instead of staged across separate contracts.
Recent Work: Hartford CTDOT Pin-and-Hanger Project
Our crews are currently performing lead-hazard abatement on an active CTDOT pin-and-hanger bridge project in Hartford, partnering with Rotha Contracting on-site. The work includes containment setup, abrasive blast cleaning of a lead-containing coating system, and protective re-coating, staged on a nighttime lane-closure schedule so traffic keeps moving through the workday.
